2) When Can I Begin Exercising?

After receiving clearance from a doctor, exercise can begin at once. The best time to begin physical preparation for pregnancy is actually before becoming pregnant. Proper nutritional and physical fitness can help boost one's chances of conceiving and set the tone for healthy habits during pregnancy.

In the absence of prepregnancy conditioning, the sooner one begins exercising after conceiving the better. Some women find the first trimester daunting as feelings of fatigue and morning sickness set in and choose to delay exercising until the second trimester. Some studies have shown, however, that cardiovascular exercise can help combat those smyptoms and ease the transition forward. Even late comers can benefit from prenatal training. Some of my clients have begun prenatal training just weeks before their deliveries, all with very positive results. Regardless of the timing, we recommend that this decision be made together by you and your physician.

Any time is a good time to start exercising, though earlier is better than later, and the benefits will unfold at any stage in the pre and postnatal experience.
